Drugstore Battle: Dry Shampoos

Hi everyone! I hope you had a wonderful weekend and an even better start to your week. Today I am starting a new series called Drugstore Battles. The first set of products that we are going to be battling are Dry Shampoos.

  1. TRESemme Fresh Start Basic Care Dry Shampoo. ($5.99) This was the very first range of dry shampoos that I tried quite a few years ago… mostly because it was the only one around. When I first used this I thought it was awesome. Using it now, I’m a tad less impressed.

My rating scale is as follows:

Does it soak up oil? Some.

Does it give some volume? A little.

Does it smell ok? Smells like regular dry shampoo.

Does it leave the hair feeling gross and chalky? Yes.

Overall this one for me is like a 6/10, it does what it is supposed to do but it has no extras that wow me. It’s very basic and if it’s all you can get your hands on then it is still a much needed product in anyone’s hair care collection.

2. Batiste “Big & Bouncy XXL Volume” Dry Shampoo ($8.99)

This was the second dry shampoo that I tried and contemplated trying for a very long time. I had heard from everyone and their mother that this was the best on the market and for that reason it was always sold out. Then I finally got my hands on some, and now its a must have for me. 13390831_10209571538065546_328485038_n

Does it soak up oil? YES. You can be as greasy as a stick of butter and this will make you look like you have just showered minutes before you left the house.

Does it give some volume? Lots.

Does it smell ok? Little bit of a fruity smell, which is nice.

Does it leave the hair feeling gross and chalky? Yes, very. Your hair is very stiff after using this, and it almost feels like you’re sticking your hands in a bowl of flour.

Overall I’m going to give this an 8/10. I could live without the super chalky feeling but on days where I feel like a total grease ball nothing else compares to this product. And in my opinion you buy dry shampoo to help out the oil control, so that’s exactly what this does.

3. COLAB Sheer+Invisible Dry Shampoo “London Classic Fragrance” ($5.25)

I feel like this brand is very big in the beauty world right now, and it also not very easy to find if you live in Canada. Emma actually picked this up on her New York trip, and we were both super excited to try it. One thing we love is how many different scents you have to choose from, and the super cute packaging.

Does it soak up oil? Yes but it probably soaks up the least out of the three.

Does it give some volume? Yes. I feel like this is targeted as more of a volume spray than an actual oil absorber.

Does it smell ok? They have so many beautiful scents, they’re almost like a perfume for your hair which is awesome on days where you didn’t have time to wash your hair.

Does it leave the hair feeling gross and chalky? No not at all. This leaves almost no trace of product in the hair, which is totally awesome for everyday use.

Overall this gets a 7/10 from me. I love this for adding volume and texture to second day and sometimes even freshly washed hair. It works great for styling because it offers some grip to the hair without leaving a white chalky look or feel. It doesn’t soak up as much oil as I would like, so that is why I have given it a 7. I haven’t tried the other versions of this, so maybe they have some that soak up more oil. If you’ve tried it please let me know in the comments!

All of these products are great in their own right and they do serve individual purposes. I hope this set of mini reviews helped you in making your own dry shampoo selections!

Thank you for reading, please remember to subscribe, and I will talk to you very soon!
