Let’s Talk About Breakups…

Well hello,

I’m not sure if many of you will remember me because it’s been so darn long since I made a post. This is because of two reasons… firstly, I tried to self host and it didn’t work in my favour. Secondly, I’ve had a pretty lousy six months in my personal life.

If you read the title of this post then I assume you can probably figure out why my flipped upside down. I went through a break up with my long term boyfriend and if you followed the blog for a while, the man I moved in with this year.

As far as breakups go I assume you could call it amicable and positive. I was devastated obviously, and I believe he was as well but there was no bitterness. We still lived together for the remainder of our lease, we still talk occasionally and there is no nastiness being spread amongst our families and friends.

I feel like since it’s been almost six months since our split that I’ve started to come to terms with a few things and I decided I would share them with you. Without further ado, here is my official list of how to survive a breakup.

MEGHAN’S BREAKUP BIBLE

  1. Pick a time frame to wallow and stick to it. For me I decided that I wouldn’t let my whole life be consumed with how hurt I was. I had school to worry about, I now had to find a new place to live, and I had friends I cared for. Although it was really difficult I managed to try and be happy as much as I could, even if it was put on like a mask. I think it actually helped to try and not be alone and to surround myself with the people who I felt comfortable around.
  2. Allow yourself to have bad days. With all that being said there were many, many days when I decided I was going to stay in bed, watch Netflix, and cry. I cried a lot. I ate a lot. I ordered pizza and brownies to my apartment and ate in bed… while I cried. I skipped school a couple mornings to sleep in and cry some more- and that’s okay.
  3. Don’t throw it all away if you’re not ready. Unfortunately as soon as the split happened everyone around me seemed to think I needed to delete my ex from my life entirely. I was told to ditch old pictures, throw away gifts, delete him on all my socials and so on. As much as this can help for some people to heal, it doesn’t for everyone. If you’re not ready to get rid of those things, or you simply want to keep them because it was a huge part of your life- then don’t. I do suggest putting it away in a safe place where you don’t have to see it everyday… and you can pull it out if you need to.
  4. Talk, a lot. If you’re in a place with your ex where you still have a relationship in which you feel comfortable to talk it out then please do. I am thankful that my ex listened to me wallow, ramble, and just clear out my brain for hours on end. It might feel stupid to tell someone how much they mean to you and get an unwanted result but at least you can leave it all out on the table. I feel so much better knowing that I literally did everything I could, there are no feelings I didn’t share. Honestly I just liked talking to him rather than the wall… makes you feel less crazy.
  5. Learn how to do things on your own. I think one of the biggest adjustments to breaking up with someone is going from being part of two people to only one. I remember trying to open jars and sobbing because I had to ask him for help, simply because I wanted to be able to do it alone. It stinks… it’s no fun to start carrying your own groceries or walking yourself to school or work, but it eventually gets easier. Thankfully I have wonderful friends who didn’t leave me all on my own. I’m getting better at being independent and I feel like once you do it enough you find comfort in being able to succeed on your own.
  6. Don’t rush into someone else if you’re not ready. If you want a rebound to make you feel better then go do it! If you just want to sit and cry and not talk to anyone within a ten mile radius, then that’s okay too.
  7. Breakup sex is a real thing. Before you either reject or participate you need to evaluate if it will be helpful or hurtful. Even if you want it really really bad and you know it will kill you then stay away. If you think it will heal then go nuts. It’s a tricky situation regardless and my advice is to not make it a common thing.
  8. Online stalking is okay- but it usually ends in hurt feelings. You can look at his likes on Instagram but you’re probably gonna find the girl he hooked up with before he met you and let me just say that it hurts like a hard slap to the face. You’ve been warned.
  9. You’re not going to be forever alone. Totally feels like it. But it’s not true. And I know the follow up statement to that is “i’ll never find someone as good”, and you probably will… even if they really were great. You can move from one good relationship to another without taking anything away from either side.

Those are my main tips, I feel like some of them are obvious but also very necessary. If you’re in the middle of a breakup then I feel you. It feels like someone has stomped on you and you just don’t want to get up. I’m currently in the limbo of deciding to put myself back out there or not. It’s scary to try again when you’ve been hurt so badly before.

Another thing that has really flipped me out is my now very apparent lack of a life plan. When you’re living with someone and you have plans for a future you start to bank on that and get comfortable. When people around you tell you its a good idea then you become certain on it. Now I have no plan, and I’m floating around wondering what’s going to happen in my life over the next ten years. It’s exciting, slightly. It’s also really, really scary. As someone who relies on comfort and security I’m just desperate to know what I should do, what I should strive for, and what risks I should or should not take.

If you’re reading this because you just had your heart broken, then I’m sorry. No cliché phrase will make you feel better, I know that because I heard them all. This is 6 months past heartbreak Meghan and I’m telling you it gets a little easier. You’re still going to be sad when you visit every place you ever went with them, or when you find their extra toothbrush, or notes they left on your phone…. it sucks, and you have the right to admit and feel that it sucks. Hopefully it doesn’t suck forever.

Nivea Anti-Perspirant Review: FAIL.

I am here to talk to you today about a little fail that happened to me a few weeks ago. I was in the market for another deodorant after I finished my Nivea Double Effects in the violet senses. (empties review for that product here!) The store didn’t have the same one so I grabbed another from the same brand.  The one that I grabbed was the Nivea Invisible for Black and White Anti-Perspirant.

nivea-invisible-for-black-and-white-stick-43-g-600x600My initial thoughts were this is awesome because I pretty well only wear black and white tops. It seemed like a perfect fit for me.

After I took the product home I used it a few times and noticed it didn’t go on as nicely as the other Nivea deodorant did. That was slightly off putting but it was nothing compared to what was going to happen next.

A few days later I looked down at my desk to see it had wet puddles covering the top. I found that very odd seeing as I had no liquids on the table. I looked around and tried to find the source.

I smelt the liquid and it smelt like deodorant. I picked up everything on the table including my brand new shirt (which was a gift I hadn’t worn yet) to find it soaked in a horrible brown liquid. The deodorant had completely leaked out and stained everything on the table.

So my question is, why was this leaking? It was a solid stick deodorant with no liquid in the product besides the chemicals/fragrance built into the stick. My room was at a normal temperature and it was stored in a dry safe place.

I’m still not sure as to why it leaked, but it did. Since then I have cast aside the Nivea brand for deodorants. I am not willing to risk another disaster.

Meghan’s Empties #1: Would I Repurchase?

Hello everyone!

I thought I would give you a quick glimpse into my little empties bucket and tell you how I felt about each of the products that I have recently finished… cause I mean who doesn’t love some empties?

I’m not going to ramble so let’s just get started!

#1. Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer for Dark Circles (Yellow shade)

To be very honest this is my probably my third or maybe even fourth now bottle of this concealer. I love it. It’s affordable, its thick, it covers my dark circles, and for me it doesn’t crease. If i’m in a pinch for time I will even put this on most of my face and pass it off as a foundation because it covers so well! I tend to go back and forth between the yellow shade and the salmon shade and I can never quite decide which one is my favourite. Overall if you’re looking for a good concealer that won’t break your bank, this is the one my friends. Definitely will repurchase! 

#2. Nivea Double Effect Anti-Perspirant/ Deodorant (Violet Senses Scent)

When I bought this deodorant I was a little nervous because I don’t usually have the best luck with Nivea products. The exception to this is the in shower body lotion, a post/ review on that product can be found here!  

After using this I actually really enjoyed it. It smelt amazing, my underarms felt significantly smoother, and I never got that stiff feeling when applying it. It seemed to just go over my skin like butter. As for sweat control I found for my day to day life it held up pretty well.

I have since repurchased a different variation of this deodorant and it was a bit of a fail… a post about this will come soon. As for my recommendation… the purple Violet Senses one worked great, but I think for the product in general i’m going to have to say it’s a no bueno from me. 

#3. NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Vanilla

This is a cult classic, this concealer is phenomenal. It is brightening, thick, covers every mark on my face, works great under the eyes, and comes in TONS of colours. It’s also very expensive. If you are in a place where you can afford the splurge then I would highly recommend it. I have since repurchased, and I will continue to repurchase in the future!

#4. Maybelline Lash Sensational Full Fan Effect Waterproof Mascara

This is a bit of a tricky review for me because I have two opinions. For the non- waterproof formula of this mascara I have nothing but nice things to say. It is what I use everyday and I adore it. For this waterproof version, I absolutely HATED it. This version of the mascara made my lashes look small and clumpy, it was really hard to put on, and nearly impossible to take off. In order to get this off of my eyelashes I would have to MELT it off with a hot cloth for several minutes before going in with any kind of makeup remover. Like not even Bioderma can get this stuff off people.

If you want to try this mascara (because it’s drugstore and really nice in general) please go with the regular formula, it doesn’t smudge on me at all and it comes off pretty easy at the end of the day. And it makes your lashes look super long (not much on the volume front though) unlike the waterproof one which just turns them into a hot fricking mess. Waterproof= big pass from me. 

#5. L’Oreal Infallible Pro- Matte Foundation

I’m not going to ramble on too much here because I have a full review of this product in this post here! In general this foundation did stay super matte, it controlled my oils, and it didn’t feel too heavy on the face. I didn’t like the fact that it oxidized like crazy on me, and it didn’t come in many shades. I found it to look a little cakey but to be fair I never applied it with a sponge (so that could change on application).

I don’t think this foundation is bad, but I don’t think I would repurchase. 

#6. Life Brand 3 in 1 Cleansing Cloths for all skin types (Makeup Wipes)

These makeup wipes used to be my holy grail wipes for a long time. I like them because they take a lot of makeup off and they do so pretty easily. The cons for me are the fact that they do sting my eyes a little and they tend to be a little drying. They come in massive packs for not much money, so that’s a huge plus.

Now that I’ve used the Simple Micellar Wipes (post here!) I don’t think I will be repurchasing the Life Brand ones unless I’m in a pinch.

I hope this post helped you a little bit and gave you some insight to my thoughts on some cult classic products, and maybe some new ones as well!

Lazy Girl Fitness: Week 1

Hi everyone!

So i’m talking about a new part of my life that I have recently started. And that my friends is the idea that makes myself and all you other lazy girls cringe– fitness. I feel like in order to start this story properly I should tell you more about myself. I was a dancer for most of my childhood and teen years. After that was finished I pretty much stopped being active… and I have really started to notice in my every day life.

I of course have gained some weight since my teens, but the most important thing that I have noticed is that I’m tired ALL of the time, I find myself avoiding stairs, and having trouble doing long walks without getting tired and out of breath.

I decided enough was finally enough and I was going to give being a fit another try. The problem? I’m extremely lazy and I am not very good at sports.

I have created a small plan and I would like to take this time to invite all the girls who feel like they can’t be fit to join me. This is not about diets (I ate cookies with my breakfast this morning). This is not about losing pounds, this is about feeling better about ourselves and being more confident.

I’m planning on making weekly posts with my workout/fitness plans for the week and updates about how my journey and how I’m feeling.

The first week has already started but for this week I have chosen to take it slow and focus on building up some endurance. If you want to see my plan then take a peek below!

Week 1: Walking

Take a walk (treadmill or outside) every day, take your time, go as far as you think you can. Take a rest on ONE day of the week, you can pick this day for when you feel you need a break. If you’re feeling good about your efforts then feel free to add in some lunge steps while you walk. 

How I’m Feeling? 

My legs are a little sore but I did find that after I walked a lot yesterday, it was much easier to take another walk today. I found that I had a bit more energy today than yesterday as well, which is exactly what I was hoping for. I’m ready to take my walks for the rest of the week! 

I will be taking these walks with you, and I will check in next week for the new weekly plan. I hope this will give you some of the motivation you were trying to find in order to get up and get moving.

FYI: Obviously I am not an expert nor am I a trainer, I am just going to write about what I am choosing to do and I will be using already created circuits from research online.

Hello everyone!

I am back home from school now and I finally received a very exciting package in the mail today! My best friend of like twelve years now recently had a birthday and this year I decided to get something a little more special for her gift.

I bought us some matching Initial letter style friendship bracelets! I bought them off an Etsy shop called “NandNjewelry”and they are beautiful!

I think this is such a good gift idea because you can personalize it with the first letter of someone’s name or you can ask for a little symbol that is important to them. Also the bracelets match so you can look at it and think of that person who shares the bracelet with you.

The bracelets that I chose are very dainty and pretty and very simple, which is my exact taste in jewellery so if you like those things then definitely check out the brand!

The pictures below are an example of the bracelet itself (mine has an M and hers was engraved with a C) and how it looks inside the packaging on arrival.

These were so beautifully wrapped, they were exactly like the original ad pictures, and they came in very good time considering they shipped from around the world! I believe they are silver plated in the coin and the chain as well.

Life Hacks: You Can Thank Me Later.

Hello everyone!

I’m taking a quick break from studying (and by quick I mean have a snack, play with my hamster, do a face mask and lust over the new tarte highlight palette) to enlighten you with some of my most prized life hacks. These are things that I have learned along the way of my life and I thought you would benefit from knowing them too.

Without further ado, let’s do some learning.

Hack #1: Use Dish Soap To Clean Your Glasses! 

I know this sounds really strange but it is something my dad taught me a long time ago. Instead of using expensive glass lens cleaners (that I found never really worked) put a little dot of dish soap on both sides of your lenses and scrub with your fingers. Once they’re covered in soap (I do the arms and the whole frame because mine are big and plastic) then wash them under running water in a windshield wiper motion with your hands. Once that is done you can wipe them dry with a paper towel.

I promise you, this is the cleanest your glasses will ever be. The dish soap is made to break up grease and residue…. which is basically everything that covers your lenses. Goodbye finger prints!

Hack #2: Microwave Baked Potatoes 

Ever wanted a baked potato but didn’t have the time? No worries, I got you. It’s pretty simple, you just take a knife or fork and poke holes all over your potato. Then place it in the microwave and follow the instructions on your machine for cook time. Every microwave has a potato button (which apparently no one I speak to knows about). This button will cook it perfectly and it’s super quick! They taste exactly like something you cooked on the bbq or your oven and there are no dishes required!

Hack #3: Pots Boil Over No More! 

I’m not really sure how it works to be honest, but it really does. If you have a pot of boiling water going that you can’t watch 24/7 just put a big spoon on top of it, laying diagonally. If the pot is not too full to begin with and is at a fairly average temperature this should keep it from over boiling. I’ve watched and used this trick many times, thank you science!

Hack #4: Second Day Pizza 

Leftover pizza is one of my absolute favourite things to eat. What I did notice however was that it tended to get soggy and hard to chew once I reheated it in the microwave. My boyfriend then taught me that I was doing my leftovers all wrong.

If you want your pizza to be soft and crispy and sog free then set your oven to 350 degrees celsius and put the pizza inside. Cooking it for around 5-8 minutes will make the pizza taste exactly how it did the night before, and sometimes even better!

Hack #5: Kraft Dinner In Half The Time 

I took this hack from the side of the Kraft Dinner or Macaroni and Cheese box. Instead of cooking my pasta on the stove I cook it in my microwave. I put the noodles into a microwave safe bowl with the amount of water listed on the box and cook it in 3 minute intervals for 9 minutes total. After 3 minutes has passed I stop and stir the pasta. You should have 3 of your 3 minute intervals and then just drain out the excess water and make the sauce as you normally would.

It tastes the exact same and it takes half the time, no boiling required.
