Summer Haircare Routine!

Hello darlings,

First thing is first, we hit 100 followers on the blog recently so thank you very much for being so wonderful. If you’re new to the blog then hello and welcome! Feel free to subscribe down below and join the wannabes family.

Now onto the topic of this post… I will be sharing with you my current hair care routine that I am really enjoying. I find my hair is looking better than it has in a very long time.

My hair type is very curly, thick, and damaged from ombre colouring on the bottom pieces. If you have hair similar to mine then I’m sure some of these products will work for you as well.

Step 1: Shampoo & Conditioner

This shampoo and conditioner set is from TRESemme and it is the Keratin Smooth collection. I’ve gone through almost a whole bottle of these and I’m really enjoying them. I think it makes my hair very soft and it does help tame down the frizz that usually swallows my head whole. It has a very nice smell and I really appreciate the inexpensive price tag and very large product size. I think if you’re looking for a new shampoo then this one is a safe one to try.

Step 2: Brush & After Wash Products

After I get out of the shower I have the horrible task of brushing out my super knotted, birds nest of hair. I used to take a very long time to do this until I made the splurge on a Tangle Teezer hairbrush. The one that I have is the small travel size in black. I enjoy this size because it fits perfectly in my hands. This brush is fantastic, it gets through my knots very quickly and it doesn’t hurt nearly as much as other brushes. The only drawback is it can be a little rough on your hair and lead to some breakage and fallout. That being said, I have super thick hair and lots of it, so that doesn’t bother me much.

The products that I use after brushing are the Living Proof Prime Style Extender throughout my whole head of hair and the Living Proof Satin Hair Smoothing Serum on my ends. I rub both of these into my wet hair and let them work their magic. I love both of these products because the style extender preps my hair for styling and heat, and the serum transforms my dry and broken ends. I adore both of these products and I can’t go without them. Definitely recommend!

Step 3: Straighten

Once my hair is dry I usually straighten it to get rid of my horrible and frizzy curls. I use the Global Beauty flat iron and it’s quite nice. It gets my whole head done in under ten minutes and that is a very labor intensive task, let me tell ya. I don’t usually straighten my hair to the point of being pin straight, I tend to get it somewhat tamed with a little bit of wave left in it for some volume. I also find the half straight look to be much more flattering and it looks more natural.

Step 4: Dry Shampoo

On days when I have not washed my hair or I am in need of some volume I tend to use the COLAB dry shampoo to add a little texture and life to my hair. I spray some in, swish it around with my fingers and enjoy the little bounce it gives to my hair. This also makes it easier to style looks in a messy way and it keeps your hair from staying flat to your head, which for me, is no bueno.

* This is my hair as of right now, a couple days after being half straightened! Excuse my glasses, i’ve run out of contact lenses (dies). PS I took one in the sun so you could see my ombre… and everything looks better in the sun.*

That wraps up my routine, I hope this helped some of you with some new ideas or product suggestions. With all of these steps I am feeling really good about my hair for the first time in a while.

Thank you for reading, and have a wonderful day.

All my love,

FYI: I bought these products myself and all opinions are my own. xo

COLAB Dry Shampoo:

Summer Haircare Routine!

Drugstore Battle: Dry Shampoos

Hi everyone! I hope you had a wonderful weekend and an even better start to your week. Today I am starting a new series called Drugstore Battles. The first set of products that we are going to be battling are Dry Shampoos.

  1. TRESemme Fresh Start Basic Care Dry Shampoo. ($5.99) This was the very first range of dry shampoos that I tried quite a few years ago… mostly because it was the only one around. When I first used this I thought it was awesome. Using it now, I’m a tad less impressed.

My rating scale is as follows:

Does it soak up oil? Some.

Does it give some volume? A little.

Does it smell ok? Smells like regular dry shampoo.

Does it leave the hair feeling gross and chalky? Yes.

Overall this one for me is like a 6/10, it does what it is supposed to do but it has no extras that wow me. It’s very basic and if it’s all you can get your hands on then it is still a much needed product in anyone’s hair care collection.

2. Batiste “Big & Bouncy XXL Volume” Dry Shampoo ($8.99)

This was the second dry shampoo that I tried and contemplated trying for a very long time. I had heard from everyone and their mother that this was the best on the market and for that reason it was always sold out. Then I finally got my hands on some, and now its a must have for me. 13390831_10209571538065546_328485038_n

Does it soak up oil? YES. You can be as greasy as a stick of butter and this will make you look like you have just showered minutes before you left the house.

Does it give some volume? Lots.

Does it smell ok? Little bit of a fruity smell, which is nice.

Does it leave the hair feeling gross and chalky? Yes, very. Your hair is very stiff after using this, and it almost feels like you’re sticking your hands in a bowl of flour.

Overall I’m going to give this an 8/10. I could live without the super chalky feeling but on days where I feel like a total grease ball nothing else compares to this product. And in my opinion you buy dry shampoo to help out the oil control, so that’s exactly what this does.

3. COLAB Sheer+Invisible Dry Shampoo “London Classic Fragrance” ($5.25)

I feel like this brand is very big in the beauty world right now, and it also not very easy to find if you live in Canada. Emma actually picked this up on her New York trip, and we were both super excited to try it. One thing we love is how many different scents you have to choose from, and the super cute packaging.

Does it soak up oil? Yes but it probably soaks up the least out of the three.

Does it give some volume? Yes. I feel like this is targeted as more of a volume spray than an actual oil absorber.

Does it smell ok? They have so many beautiful scents, they’re almost like a perfume for your hair which is awesome on days where you didn’t have time to wash your hair.

Does it leave the hair feeling gross and chalky? No not at all. This leaves almost no trace of product in the hair, which is totally awesome for everyday use.

Overall this gets a 7/10 from me. I love this for adding volume and texture to second day and sometimes even freshly washed hair. It works great for styling because it offers some grip to the hair without leaving a white chalky look or feel. It doesn’t soak up as much oil as I would like, so that is why I have given it a 7. I haven’t tried the other versions of this, so maybe they have some that soak up more oil. If you’ve tried it please let me know in the comments!

All of these products are great in their own right and they do serve individual purposes. I hope this set of mini reviews helped you in making your own dry shampoo selections!

Thank you for reading, please remember to subscribe, and I will talk to you very soon!

April Sephora Haul!

Hello again!

I hope you’re all well, I have currently been drowning in the almost exam period at my university, so needless to say, i’m a busy bee.

I decided to treat myself for my birthday and do a wee bit of Sephora shopping. So if you would like to take a peek into my haul then get yourself a cup, a snack, a comfy chair and lets get started.

#1: Origins: Radiance Boosting Bests Kit (500 Point Beauty Insider Reward)

What’s Inside:

  1. A mini of the GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream
  2. High Potency Night-A-Mins Mineral-Enriched Renewal Cream (1 oz.)
  3. Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash mini
  4. Modern Friction Nature’s Gentle Dermabrasion mini

I was so excited to see this finally pop up in the rewards boutique. I have been saving up my points for something good and this did not disappoint! I love Origin’s masks so I cannot wait to try out the rest of the products. And ps they are all really generous sizes (especially the Night-A-Mins).

#2: Marc Jacobs Birthday Gift Mini Makeup Set

What’s Inside:

  1. Marc Jacobs Le Marc Lip Creme Lipstick in “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang”
  2. Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner in “Black”

This was the birthday gift that I chose this year. I mainly picked it because I was running low on an eyeliner and figured this would be a good option. I’m happy with my initial swatches, the eyeliner is ridiculously black, soft and seems to be long wearing. The lipstick is a pretty neutral pink colour, so a staple for anyone really. Would highly recommend!

#3: Living Proof Sample Trio

What’s Inside:

  1. Living Proof: Prime Style Extender
  2. Living Proof: Instant Texture Mist
  3. Living Proof: Satin Hair Serum

This little trio was a gift for VIB and VIB Rouge members and I was super excited about it. I got the two of the three products from the brand that I really wanted to try and they’re huge sample sizes as well. I will try these and keep you updated.

#4: Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Skin Twinkle Lighting Palette

What’s Inside:

  1. Luminous perfecting powder in Sunlight, Moonlight
  2. Perfecting powder in Filtered Light (middle shade)

This palette has had me drooling over it for months since it came out. I was so obsessed that I finally splurged and bought it. This turns out to be a stunning palette and the packaging looks beautiful on my table. If you want a review on this then please leave a comment letting me know!

So as always with my hauls, please let me know if you want my opinion/ review on any of these products in the comments below and I will write about them in the future! Let me know what products you want to try from my haul as well!

Until next time,

Meghan. x
