June Favourites 2016

Hi my loves!

I apologize for going MIA for the last two weeks but I currently am working three jobs so i’m a bit of a busy bee. Regardless of that fact I have been loving some new beauty products that I wanted to share with you.

Without further ado, it’s time for some favourites.

#1. Benefit “Roller Lash” Mascara

13480056_10209685978086475_982529304_n

This came in a trial size in one of our Sephora kits and I pretty much fell in love… enough to take the plunge and buy the full size. I love this because it separates my lashes and makes them look super long without being clumpy. It has a similar finish to the Maybelline Lash Sensational (my drugstore fave) but I find the Benefit one makes my lashes a little more noticeable and dramatic while still being really long and fluttery. And let me tell you, i’m not mad about it.

#2. Real Techniques Detailer Brush

13487901_10209685978006473_208532404_n

I think I got this brush in one of my Real Techniques set quite a few years ago and I recently decided to give it a try. I have been having some real skin issues right now and I’m trying to find the best way to cover up tricky spots. This has been working pretty well for me. I dip it in the lid of my foundation and I just work around the spot and blend. It seems to work very well for small areas and making very precise strokes. If you can get your hands on this brush on its own or in a set I would highly recommend it.

#3. Living Proof Satin Hair Serum

13510683_10209685977966472_1145160998_n

Holy moly, am I excited about this one you guys. I have the frizziest, curliest, driest, most bleached and damaged ends on this planet. I have ombre hair and have done for a few years now so I have basically given up on having nice and soft ends. I got this in a try me package from the brand and I just fell in love (So did Emma). My ends feel 10 times softer, they look WAY healthier and the split ends are virtually gone. My hair used to split into chunks and now it just stays together nicely without being frizzy. Another bonus for this product is that it doesn’t leave an oily residue when I apply it to my wet hair and let it dry. I cannot tell you how much I love this product. It has been a life saver and if you have hair like mine then you NEED THIS in your life. Although,I am dreading the day that my sample runs out because then I have to go out and buy the big one.

#4. Mac “Faux” Satin Finish Lipstick

I think I’ve spoken about this lipstick a couple times now but it’s just such a good one. It is matte without being super drying, it’s a beautiful nude colour and it works so well for an everyday lipstick. I pretty much use it daily, and it is always in my handbag. I would highly recommend this shade if you’re looking for a good everyday colour!

#5. L’Oreal Brow Stylist Definer

13479603_10209685977926471_1974806706_n

I recently ran out of my Anastasia Brow Wiz and Emma told me I should try the dupe we found (post here) again, so I did. To be honest I really enjoy this drugstore option. The colour (dark brunette) is a really good match for me and it glides onto the skin nicely. It’s waxy enough but it still lasts all day on my face. This gets a solid thumbs up from me.

I hope you enjoyed seeing what I’ve been enjoying lately. We are planning to continue with the favourites, however we will be alternating months, so next month you can see what Emma has been loving!

Please let me know what kind of posts you guys would like to see in the future by leaving a comment, or tell me what you’ve been loving this month!

All my love,

Meghan. x

Drugstore Battle: Dry Shampoos

Hi everyone! I hope you had a wonderful weekend and an even better start to your week. Today I am starting a new series called Drugstore Battles. The first set of products that we are going to be battling are Dry Shampoos.

  1. TRESemme Fresh Start Basic Care Dry Shampoo. ($5.99) This was the very first range of dry shampoos that I tried quite a few years ago… mostly because it was the only one around. When I first used this I thought it was awesome. Using it now, I’m a tad less impressed.

13401108_10209571537505532_308593468_n

My rating scale is as follows:

Does it soak up oil? Some.

Does it give some volume? A little.

Does it smell ok? Smells like regular dry shampoo.

Does it leave the hair feeling gross and chalky? Yes.

Overall this one for me is like a 6/10, it does what it is supposed to do but it has no extras that wow me. It’s very basic and if it’s all you can get your hands on then it is still a much needed product in anyone’s hair care collection.

2. Batiste “Big & Bouncy XXL Volume” Dry Shampoo ($8.99)

This was the second dry shampoo that I tried and contemplated trying for a very long time. I had heard from everyone and their mother that this was the best on the market and for that reason it was always sold out. Then I finally got my hands on some, and now its a must have for me. 13390831_10209571538065546_328485038_n

Does it soak up oil? YES. You can be as greasy as a stick of butter and this will make you look like you have just showered minutes before you left the house.

Does it give some volume? Lots.

Does it smell ok? Little bit of a fruity smell, which is nice.

Does it leave the hair feeling gross and chalky? Yes, very. Your hair is very stiff after using this, and it almost feels like you’re sticking your hands in a bowl of flour.

Overall I’m going to give this an 8/10. I could live without the super chalky feeling but on days where I feel like a total grease ball nothing else compares to this product. And in my opinion you buy dry shampoo to help out the oil control, so that’s exactly what this does.

3. COLAB Sheer+Invisible Dry Shampoo “London Classic Fragrance” ($5.25)

I feel like this brand is very big in the beauty world right now, and it also not very easy to find if you live in Canada. Emma actually picked this up on her New York trip, and we were both super excited to try it. One thing we love is how many different scents you have to choose from, and the super cute packaging.

13407408_10209571538025545_1633861165_n

Does it soak up oil? Yes but it probably soaks up the least out of the three.

Does it give some volume? Yes. I feel like this is targeted as more of a volume spray than an actual oil absorber.

Does it smell ok? They have so many beautiful scents, they’re almost like a perfume for your hair which is awesome on days where you didn’t have time to wash your hair.

Does it leave the hair feeling gross and chalky? No not at all. This leaves almost no trace of product in the hair, which is totally awesome for everyday use.

Overall this gets a 7/10 from me. I love this for adding volume and texture to second day and sometimes even freshly washed hair. It works great for styling because it offers some grip to the hair without leaving a white chalky look or feel. It doesn’t soak up as much oil as I would like, so that is why I have given it a 7. I haven’t tried the other versions of this, so maybe they have some that soak up more oil. If you’ve tried it please let me know in the comments!

All of these products are great in their own right and they do serve individual purposes. I hope this set of mini reviews helped you in making your own dry shampoo selections!

Thank you for reading, please remember to subscribe, and I will talk to you very soon!

Nivea Anti-Perspirant Review: FAIL.

Hello!

I am here to talk to you today about a little fail that happened to me a few weeks ago. I was in the market for another deodorant after I finished my Nivea Double Effects in the violet senses. (empties review for that product here!) The store didn’t have the same one so I grabbed another from the same brand.  The one that I grabbed was the Nivea Invisible for Black and White Anti-Perspirant.

(This photo is one from a store because I have since thrown mine away!)

nivea-invisible-for-black-and-white-stick-43-g-600x600My initial thoughts were this is awesome because I pretty well only wear black and white tops. It seemed like a perfect fit for me.

After I took the product home I used it a few times and noticed it didn’t go on as nicely as the other Nivea deodorant did. That was slightly off putting but it was nothing compared to what was going to happen next.

A few days later I looked down at my desk to see it had wet puddles covering the top. I found that very odd seeing as I had no liquids on the table. I looked around and tried to find the source.

I smelt the liquid and it smelt like deodorant. I picked up everything on the table including my brand new shirt (which was a gift I hadn’t worn yet) to find it soaked in a horrible brown liquid. The deodorant had completely leaked out and stained everything on the table.

So my question is, why was this leaking? It was a solid stick deodorant with no liquid in the product besides the chemicals/fragrance built into the stick. My room was at a normal temperature and it was stored in a dry safe place.

I’m still not sure as to why it leaked, but it did. Since then I have cast aside the Nivea brand for deodorants. I am not willing to risk another disaster.

I hope this has shined some light on this product for you guys. If you have tried it please feel free to leave your experiences in the comments below! Did you have a better one than I did? Did you love it, hate it?

All my love,

Meghan. x

Nivea Anti-Perspirant Review: FAIL.

Meghan’s Empties #1: Would I Repurchase?

Hello everyone!

I thought I would give you a quick glimpse into my little empties bucket and tell you how I felt about each of the products that I have recently finished… cause I mean who doesn’t love some empties?

I’m not going to ramble so let’s just get started!

#1. Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer for Dark Circles (Yellow shade)

13235811_10209421879364172_569069022_n

To be very honest this is my probably my third or maybe even fourth now bottle of this concealer. I love it. It’s affordable, its thick, it covers my dark circles, and for me it doesn’t crease. If i’m in a pinch for time I will even put this on most of my face and pass it off as a foundation because it covers so well! I tend to go back and forth between the yellow shade and the salmon shade and I can never quite decide which one is my favourite. Overall if you’re looking for a good concealer that won’t break your bank, this is the one my friends. Definitely will repurchase!

#2. Nivea Double Effect Anti-Perspirant/ Deodorant (Violet Senses Scent)

13228070_10209421878284145_477974519_n

When I bought this deodorant I was a little nervous because I don’t usually have the best luck with Nivea products. The exception to this is the in shower body lotion, a post/ review on that product can be found here!

After using this I actually really enjoyed it. It smelt amazing, my underarms felt significantly smoother, and I never got that stiff feeling when applying it. It seemed to just go over my skin like butter. As for sweat control I found for my day to day life it held up pretty well.

I have since repurchased a different variation of this deodorant and it was a bit of a fail… a post about this will come soon. As for my recommendation… the purple Violet Senses one worked great, but I think for the product in general i’m going to have to say it’s a no bueno from me.

#3. NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Vanilla

13249523_10209421878444149_384503675_n

This is a cult classic, this concealer is phenomenal. It is brightening, thick, covers every mark on my face, works great under the eyes, and comes in TONS of colours. It’s also very expensive. If you are in a place where you can afford the splurge then I would highly recommend it. I have since repurchased, and I will continue to repurchase in the future!

#4. Maybelline Lash Sensational Full Fan Effect Waterproof Mascara

13235824_10209421878324146_1159621956_n

This is a bit of a tricky review for me because I have two opinions. For the non- waterproof formula of this mascara I have nothing but nice things to say. It is what I use everyday and I adore it. For this waterproof version, I absolutely HATED it. This version of the mascara made my lashes look small and clumpy, it was really hard to put on, and nearly impossible to take off. In order to get this off of my eyelashes I would have to MELT it off with a hot cloth for several minutes before going in with any kind of makeup remover. Like not even Bioderma can get this stuff off people.

If you want to try this mascara (because it’s drugstore and really nice in general) please go with the regular formula, it doesn’t smudge on me at all and it comes off pretty easy at the end of the day. And it makes your lashes look super long (not much on the volume front though) unlike the waterproof one which just turns them into a hot fricking mess. Waterproof= big pass from me.

#5. L’Oreal Infallible Pro- Matte Foundation

13233169_10209421878604153_786645996_n

I’m not going to ramble on too much here because I have a full review of this product in this post here! In general this foundation did stay super matte, it controlled my oils, and it didn’t feel too heavy on the face. I didn’t like the fact that it oxidized like crazy on me, and it didn’t come in many shades. I found it to look a little cakey but to be fair I never applied it with a sponge (so that could change on application).

I don’t think this foundation is bad, but I don’t think I would repurchase.

#6. Life Brand 3 in 1 Cleansing Cloths for all skin types (Makeup Wipes)

13219918_10209421879484175_1649536419_n

These makeup wipes used to be my holy grail wipes for a long time. I like them because they take a lot of makeup off and they do so pretty easily. The cons for me are the fact that they do sting my eyes a little and they tend to be a little drying. They come in massive packs for not much money, so that’s a huge plus.

Now that I’ve used the Simple Micellar Wipes (post here!) I don’t think I will be repurchasing the Life Brand ones unless I’m in a pinch.

I hope this post helped you a little bit and gave you some insight to my thoughts on some cult classic products, and maybe some new ones as well!

Feel free to leave a comment if you’ve tried these products with your thoughts, I would love to read them. Also leave any suggestions of what you would like to see upcoming on the blog, I’m always open to ideas!

Have a wonderful day or evening and I will talk to you soon!
