June Favourites 2016

Hi my loves!

I apologize for going MIA for the last two weeks but I currently am working three jobs so i’m a bit of a busy bee. Regardless of that fact I have been loving some new beauty products that I wanted to share with you.

Without further ado, it’s time for some favourites.

#1. Benefit “Roller Lash” Mascara

This came in a trial size in one of our Sephora kits and I pretty much fell in love… enough to take the plunge and buy the full size. I love this because it separates my lashes and makes them look super long without being clumpy. It has a similar finish to the Maybelline Lash Sensational (my drugstore fave) but I find the Benefit one makes my lashes a little more noticeable and dramatic while still being really long and fluttery. And let me tell you, i’m not mad about it.

#2. Real Techniques Detailer Brush

I think I got this brush in one of my Real Techniques set quite a few years ago and I recently decided to give it a try. I have been having some real skin issues right now and I’m trying to find the best way to cover up tricky spots. This has been working pretty well for me. I dip it in the lid of my foundation and I just work around the spot and blend. It seems to work very well for small areas and making very precise strokes. If you can get your hands on this brush on its own or in a set I would highly recommend it.

#3. Living Proof Satin Hair Serum

Holy moly, am I excited about this one you guys. I have the frizziest, curliest, driest, most bleached and damaged ends on this planet. I have ombre hair and have done for a few years now so I have basically given up on having nice and soft ends. I got this in a try me package from the brand and I just fell in love (So did Emma). My ends feel 10 times softer, they look WAY healthier and the split ends are virtually gone. My hair used to split into chunks and now it just stays together nicely without being frizzy. Another bonus for this product is that it doesn’t leave an oily residue when I apply it to my wet hair and let it dry. I cannot tell you how much I love this product. It has been a life saver and if you have hair like mine then you NEED THIS in your life. Although,I am dreading the day that my sample runs out because then I have to go out and buy the big one.

#4. Mac “Faux” Satin Finish Lipstick

I think I’ve spoken about this lipstick a couple times now but it’s just such a good one. It is matte without being super drying, it’s a beautiful nude colour and it works so well for an everyday lipstick. I pretty much use it daily, and it is always in my handbag. I would highly recommend this shade if you’re looking for a good everyday colour!

#5. L’Oreal Brow Stylist Definer

I recently ran out of my Anastasia Brow Wiz and Emma told me I should try the dupe we found (post here) again, so I did. To be honest I really enjoy this drugstore option. The colour (dark brunette) is a really good match for me and it glides onto the skin nicely. It’s waxy enough but it still lasts all day on my face. This gets a solid thumbs up from me.

I hope you enjoyed seeing what I’ve been enjoying lately. We are planning to continue with the favourites, however we will be alternating months, so next month you can see what Emma has been loving!

Please let me know what kind of posts you guys would like to see in the future by leaving a comment, or tell me what you’ve been loving this month!

All my love,

Meghan. x

Meghan’s Empties #1: Would I Repurchase?

Hello everyone!

I thought I would give you a quick glimpse into my little empties bucket and tell you how I felt about each of the products that I have recently finished… cause I mean who doesn’t love some empties?

I’m not going to ramble so let’s just get started!

#1. Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer for Dark Circles (Yellow shade)

To be very honest this is my probably my third or maybe even fourth now bottle of this concealer. I love it. It’s affordable, its thick, it covers my dark circles, and for me it doesn’t crease. If i’m in a pinch for time I will even put this on most of my face and pass it off as a foundation because it covers so well! I tend to go back and forth between the yellow shade and the salmon shade and I can never quite decide which one is my favourite. Overall if you’re looking for a good concealer that won’t break your bank, this is the one my friends. Definitely will repurchase!

#2. Nivea Double Effect Anti-Perspirant/ Deodorant (Violet Senses Scent)

When I bought this deodorant I was a little nervous because I don’t usually have the best luck with Nivea products. The exception to this is the in shower body lotion, a post/ review on that product can be found here!

After using this I actually really enjoyed it. It smelt amazing, my underarms felt significantly smoother, and I never got that stiff feeling when applying it. It seemed to just go over my skin like butter. As for sweat control I found for my day to day life it held up pretty well.

I have since repurchased a different variation of this deodorant and it was a bit of a fail… a post about this will come soon. As for my recommendation… the purple Violet Senses one worked great, but I think for the product in general i’m going to have to say it’s a no bueno from me.

#3. NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Vanilla

This is a cult classic, this concealer is phenomenal. It is brightening, thick, covers every mark on my face, works great under the eyes, and comes in TONS of colours. It’s also very expensive. If you are in a place where you can afford the splurge then I would highly recommend it. I have since repurchased, and I will continue to repurchase in the future!

#4. Maybelline Lash Sensational Full Fan Effect Waterproof Mascara

This is a bit of a tricky review for me because I have two opinions. For the non- waterproof formula of this mascara I have nothing but nice things to say. It is what I use everyday and I adore it. For this waterproof version, I absolutely HATED it. This version of the mascara made my lashes look small and clumpy, it was really hard to put on, and nearly impossible to take off. In order to get this off of my eyelashes I would have to MELT it off with a hot cloth for several minutes before going in with any kind of makeup remover. Like not even Bioderma can get this stuff off people.

If you want to try this mascara (because it’s drugstore and really nice in general) please go with the regular formula, it doesn’t smudge on me at all and it comes off pretty easy at the end of the day. And it makes your lashes look super long (not much on the volume front though) unlike the waterproof one which just turns them into a hot fricking mess. Waterproof= big pass from me.

#5. L’Oreal Infallible Pro- Matte Foundation

I’m not going to ramble on too much here because I have a full review of this product in this post here! In general this foundation did stay super matte, it controlled my oils, and it didn’t feel too heavy on the face. I didn’t like the fact that it oxidized like crazy on me, and it didn’t come in many shades. I found it to look a little cakey but to be fair I never applied it with a sponge (so that could change on application).

I don’t think this foundation is bad, but I don’t think I would repurchase.

#6. Life Brand 3 in 1 Cleansing Cloths for all skin types (Makeup Wipes)

These makeup wipes used to be my holy grail wipes for a long time. I like them because they take a lot of makeup off and they do so pretty easily. The cons for me are the fact that they do sting my eyes a little and they tend to be a little drying. They come in massive packs for not much money, so that’s a huge plus.

Now that I’ve used the Simple Micellar Wipes (post here!) I don’t think I will be repurchasing the Life Brand ones unless I’m in a pinch.

I hope this post helped you a little bit and gave you some insight to my thoughts on some cult classic products, and maybe some new ones as well!

Feel free to leave a comment if you’ve tried these products with your thoughts, I would love to read them. Also leave any suggestions of what you would like to see upcoming on the blog, I’m always open to ideas!

Have a wonderful day or evening and I will talk to you soon!

Tarte Skin Twinkle Lighting Palette Review

Hello my loves!

I recently did a Sephora haul Here! and there were some requests to do a follow up post on one of my purchases. So of course, I am going to answer those requests right now. The following review is for the new Tarte Rainforest of the sea highlight (skin twinkle) palette.

Item: Tarte Skin Twinkle Lighting Palette

Price: $50.00 (Canadian)

Places to buy: Sephora, Tarte Cosmetics

What’s Inside: Two highlighters in Sunlight & Moonlight, setting powder in Filtered Light

So first off let me start by saying I was in love with this palette the first time I saw it online. I lusted after it forever before I finally sucked it up and bought it. The packaging is beautiful, the portion sizes are great and I like how the palette comes with a more gold toned highlight as well as a more pink toned.

The highlighters themselves are beautiful. They are really pretty colours, they look soft on the face, and they feel fantastic to touch. The powders are really smooth, apart from the one in the middle.

The middle shade, the setting powder, is a little scratchy and to be honest I don’t think it does much. I used it to set my under eyes and they didn’t crease, but they don’t usually so I’m not sure how much of an effect the product had. However with that being said, I would still recommend the product for the two highlighters themselves.

I am a newbie to highlighting and I found this palette to be really helpful. I didn’t know what shade to go with(gold or pink undertones) and this offers both to me. It is also more on the natural side (but still use a gentle hand people!) so it’s harder to mess up.

(Swatch & Pan: Sunlight on the left, Moonlight on the right)

I think this is a great palette and if you are looking for a splurge then I would definitely give it a go. Yes, there are more affordable options and dupes, but this product is lovely in its own right. Every time I wear it I feel like I’m having a good makeup day. I’m very happy that I bought it, and it looks lovely on my makeup table.

I hope this review helped if you’re weighing the options of making the splurge! If you do end up trying the product or you already have it then let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Until next time,

Meghan. xo
