The Best Masks For Acne-Prone Skin

Hello again,

It’s Emma here. Nice to see you. Today I am bringing you both mine and Meghan’s favourite face masks to use when our skin is feeling not our best. In case you weren’t aware Meghan and I are sisters with two different but vaguely similar skin types. Though her skin is more oily and my problem is dryness, we both come from the exact same parents and have one fellow enemy: acne.

We both grew up with acne and have used every product under the sun to try to combat our annoying genetics. We’ve been through products that balance your pH levels, products that cut down on oil, improve healing of the skin blah blah. We’ve done it all. After years of trying out products there is one thing I do know for sure and that is that sometimes you are going to have bad skin days. It’s just going to happen. And on those days face masks are a way to keep you sane. We have narrowed down our favourites to the top 3. Drum roll, please…

The first mask that we absolutely swear by is the Origins “Out Of Trouble” 10 Minute Mask to Rescue Problem Skin (retails for $31). This mask is revolutionary. It makes any day into a good skin day. It reduces redness, calms down any breakouts and has a slight mint scent/sensation that makes you feel clean. Meghan loves the mint, I personally don’t care either way. It feels good and it works, and that’s all I care about. You could easily use this mask once a week if you wanted to but I tend to just use it on days where my skin hates me or if I’m feeling particularly red.

This next one is something that I love and have basically forced my love upon Meghan as well. It’s just so cool. I was given a free sample for this product from The Face Shop – they’re great at giving out samples- used it once and was automatically sold. It’s the Mild Papaya Peeling mask by The Face Shop (retails for $17). So yes, it is a peel and yes that does it mean it takes off your dry skin. You only need 1-2 pumps to cover your whole face as for it comes out almost like a clear jelly and you rub it into your skin like a wash rather than leaving it there like a mask.

The first time I used it I was feeling little bumps and was all “oh hey, it has exfoliating beads” and then I realized IT WAS MY SKIN. SHEDDING OFF. LIKE A LIZARD. Honestly Meghan thinks this is gross. I love it. Especially because I have some acne scarring and often have dry skin I love knowing that I’m getting rid of the bad layers and going down to the pretty skin that is literally as soft as a baby’s butt. I use this at least once a week and it is important to remember to use a toner after because apparently it opens your pores. Just try it, you will love it. papayamask

Last but not least we have the charcoal mask that makes you look absolutely frightening in. I don’t know who had the original idea to put charcoal into skincare was and if they were a bit of a mad hatter but hey, it works. The Origins “Clear Improvement” Active Charcoal Mask To Clear Pores (retails for $31) is my favourite product to use when I feel like I really need to get the gross bacteria pile-ups out of my pores. I also use it on days when I feel particularly oily as for it is slightly more drying than the other Origins mask. For Meghan, something to pull out excess oils is fabulous. For me, it just means I need to put a moisturizing mask on after. No biggie.

And there you have it folks. I hope these suggestions help you in your quest to flawless skin.

Signing off,

Emma xo
